Each session includes discussion of assigned texts and direct instruction in reading and writing. After class, students complete weekly assignments in grammar, reading, and writing.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"preFade fadeIn\"\u003eStudents read a variety of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry, with a focus on novel studies.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"preFade fadeIn\"\u003eWriting assignments include short responses, adventure stories, argument essays, nature journals, a news article, a multi-week research report, and an original Greek myth.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"preFade fadeIn\"\u003eGrammar study is completed independently through short lessons and quizzes. Topics include sentence structure, types of sentences, punctuation, parts of speech, and root words.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"preFade fadeIn\"\u003eThis course is designed for average 5th grade learners, but includes personalized teacher feedback to support and challenge students at all levels. Weekly work averages 30-60 minutes, 3-4 days per week.
